THE
LEYEND OF THE PILCOMAYO AND BERMEJO RIVERS
LEYENDA
DE LOS RÍOS PILCOMAYO Y BERMEJO
Once upon a time the Tupá or
the Guaraní God in Bolivia told to Guarán (a human being) to take care of a
región in Bolivia called Gran Chaco, a place where guaraní people used to live.
Una vez Tupá o el Dios Guaraní
en Bolivia le dijo a Guarán (un ser humano) cuidar una región en Bolivia
llamada Gran Chaco, un lugar donde los guaraní solían vivir.
Guarán agreed and took care
of the land, but he was getting older, therefore his sons had to take care of the Gran Chaco región.
Guarán estuvo de acuerdo y
cuidó de la tierra, pero el se estaba volviendo viejo, por eso sus hijos tuvo
que cuidar de la región del Gran Chaco.
The boys names were
Tuvichavé and Michiveva. Tuvichavé was big, strong, nervous, corageous, on the
other hand Michiveva was weak, thin, tranquil, pacifist.
Los nombres de los muchachos
eran tuvichavé y Michiveva. Tuvichavé era grande, fuerte, corajudo, por otra
parte Michiveva era débil, delgado, tranquilo, pacifista.
Whenever the father died
Tuvichavé and Michiveva had a strong discussion about the lands that they had
to take care of.
Cuando el padre murió
Tuvichavé y Michiveva tuvo una fuerte discusión acerca de las tierras que ellos
tenían que cuidar.
Sólo uno de los muchachos
tenía que ser el líder. Ambos pelearon, por esa razón el demonio que en la
lengua guaraní era llamado Añá les dijo que peleen para su puesto.
The first competition was
about throwing arrows. Then they were throwing arrows until Añá made the Michiveva arrow get into the heart
of Tuvichavé.
La primera competencia era
llanzar flechas. Entonces ellos estaban lanzando flechas hasta que Añá hizo que
la flecha de Michiveva se introduzca el corazón de Tuvichavé.
Tuvichavé unfortunately died
and the blood turned into a very deep strong red river called nowadays Bermejo
or I-phytá. Michiveva realized at this moment that his hate kill his brother,
he began to cry and cry until he died and the tears of him turned into a river
called Pilcomayo.
Tuvichavé desafortunadamente
murió y su sangre se convirtió en un rio rojo y profundo llamado hoy en día Río
Bermejo o I-phytá. Michiveva se dio
cuenta en ese momento que su odio mató a su hermano, el comenzó a llorar y
llorara hasta que murió y sus lágrimas se convirtieron en un río llamado
Pilcomayo.
The región called Gran
Chaco in which there is Tarija Department have no leader and no guardian but
the Bermejo and Pilcomayo rivers.
La región llamada Gran Chaco donde está el departamento de Tarija no tienen líder ni guardían sólo están los ríos Pilcomayo y Bermejo.
